With great sadness, we lament the passing of Barbara Brotherton, PhD. (1950-2025). She was the longtime secretary for Lushootseed Research Board and a student in Vi Hilbert’s earliest classes at the University of Washington. Barbara also served as Seattle Art Museum’s Curator of Native American Art for more than two decades, during which time she developed close, meaningful ties with Native artists and tribes through her advocacy and dedication to community-based curation. Barbara’s friendship, compassion, expertise, and generosity touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed.
